Injury accident

¢ A two-vehicle wreck sent one person to the hospital and took down a utility pole at the intersection of 12th and Kentucky Streets Saturday afternoon.

About 4:45 p.m., a blue Ford Mustang struck a red Chevrolet Impala after the Mustang tried to turn left from the right-hand lane. The Impala hit the Mustang's driver's side door, sending the Mustang into the utility pole on the corner.

Although the pole was not knocked down completely, it did jar power lines loose and into the intersection. One driver was sent to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. No other people were transported.

This is similar to the accident in Baldwin last week, wherein a driver tried to turn right from the left lane and nailed a motorcyclist. At least this time the idiot, rather than the innocent, was the one going to the hospital.

WTF is wrong with people who are so arrogant (impatient, oblivious to others, etc) that when they realize they are in the wrong lane, they can't take 60--120 SECONDS to go around the freaking block????

I am glad that the other vehicle THIS time was a car and not a motorcycle or bicycle. I am also glad that the Mustang driver did not sustain life-threatening injuries (this is not a crime for which someone should have to pay with their life) but I do hope that he or she will learn not to make his/her mistakes everybody else's lookout.

I.e., if you screw up and almost go past your turn, or find yourself in the wrong lane, GO AROUND THE BLOCK or otherwise get back to where you need to be by legal and safe means. Don't just expect other traffic to stop for your highness and don't spastically just turn without properly assessing other traffic and HOPE nobody is there to hit.
