Cost of war

To the editor:

Memorial Day, a day of remembrance of those who answered the call of duty and gave their life in that call.

We as a people have the right – no, the obligation – to observe those who return in flag-draped coffins. The American people need to understand the cost of war, not the monetary cost, but the cost in lives, the cost to families of those who have served and do serve and those who have served and survived.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: at the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.” – “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon, 1914.
