Old home town – 40 years ago today

The city of Baldwin was hoping to get a $40,000 skilled care nursing home with a capacity of 40 beds through the aid of a federal matching grant.

Insects were currently causing the local wheat far more trouble than the lack of rain, according to county agent Deal Six.

Four of the six members of the Robert Stump family were to complete segments of their educational careers this May: Greg, 12, Hillcrest School; Roger 14, West Junior High; Mrs. Stump, a master’s degree in the history of art at Kansas University; Dan, 17, Lawrence High graduate.
