Showers, thunderstorms staying off to south

Weekend to bring sunny skies, temperaturs in 90s

Lawrence was a little cloudy this morning, but there’s little threat for rain today, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologists.

“Any showers and thunderstorms have stayed well off to the south of us and they are not pushing in our direction,” Schack said.

She said Lawrence would have some dimmed sunshine this morning, with a warm front arriving this afternoon.

“It looks like it will be a hot start to the weekend, with plenty of sunshine heading into Saturday,” she said.

At 6:30 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 59 degrees, the humidity was 87 percent and winds were out of the northeast at 5 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 59 degrees. The record low was 42 degrees, set in 1901.

The average high temperature for this date is 79 degrees. The record high was 95 degrees, set in 1964.

“We’re heading up to 89 degrees today,” Schack said. Winds will be out of the.south at 8 to 18 mph, she said.

Tonight, expect dry, mild weather, with the temperature falling to 69 degrees by early Saturday morning, Schack said.

Saturday’s skies will be mostly clear, with a few clouds moving in during the afternoon, she said. Saturday’s high temperature will climb to 93 degrees, with south winds 15 to 20 mph, she said.

“If you have afternoon plans, hopefully it will involve a lake or a pool,” Schack said.

Hot weather continues on Sunday, with the morning temperature starting at 70 degrees and climbing to 92 degrees by Sunday afternoon, she said.
