Sunny, warming into high 80s

Flip on the air conditioner. Temperatures are soaring up into the high 80s again, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“The summer preview is continuing today, with sunshine and the temperature above average,” Schack said.

At 7:20 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 62 degrees, the humidity was 73 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 7 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 58 degrees. The record low was 36 degrees, set in 1923.

The average high temperature for this date is 78 degrees. The record high was 95 degrees, set in 1964.

Schack said today’s high will climb to 88 degrees. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph, she said.

Friday’s morning low will be 59 degrees, with the high climbing to 89 degrees Friday afternoon, Schack said. She said there is also a chance for isolated storms late Friday night.

The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms Friday afternoon and a 30 percent chance on Friday night.

Saturday’s morning low temperature will be 68 degrees, with Saturday’s high climbing to 93.
