Kansas University students Mary Fukushima and Michael Kirkendoll will present a rehearsal of their Carnegie Hall debut at 6:30 p.m. today.

The music students will travel to New York in June to perform together after completing a successful audition in the 2005 Artists International Debut Auditions.

Fukushima, who plays the flute, and Kirkendoll, who plays piano, will perform a program that features music composed since 1940, including works by Aaron Copland, Olivier Messiaen, Andre Jolivet, Joyce Mekeel and David Rakowski.

Also included will be a performance of “Suenos de Chambi” by KU composer-in-residence Gabriela Frank, as well as the world premiere of “Kaykhosrow’s Ascension,” composed by KU student Brian Bondari.

Today’s concert will be at Swarthout Recital Hall, and another rehearsal is planned at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lied Center. Both performances are free and open to the public.
