Summer-like heat moving in through weekend
Overnight thunderstorm brought 0.86 of an inch of rain
Summer’s still a month away. But hot, sunny weather is headed in for the next few days, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.
“We’re heading up to 90 degrees for a high today,” Schack said. “Get used it it – there are plenty of 90s in the forecast up through Memorial Day.”
The average high temperature for this date is 78 degrees. The record high was 97 degrees, set in 1939.
At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 73 degrees, the humidity was 84 percent and winds were out of the south at 10 mph.
The average low temperature for this date is 58 degrees. The record low was 40 degrees, set in 1924.
Overnight, a thunderstorm moved through Lawrence, bringing in 0.86 of an inch of rain at the National Weather Service’s recording station at Lawrence Municipal Airport. The line of storms produced some heavy rain and some small hail, Schack said.
“No rumbles tonight to wake you up,” Schack said. She said Thursday’s morning low will be 63 degrees, climbing to a high of 88 degrees.
Friday’s morning low temperature will drop to 63 degrees, then reach a high of 91 degrees on Friday afternoon, she said. There’s a very slight chance for an isolated thunderstorm Friday night, she said.
Saturday, Sunday and Monday’s afternoon highs will all be in in low 90s, she said. The morning lows on those days will be in the upper 60s, she said.
