Pull out the sunglasses and get a cold drink. Lawrence will bask in sunshine this afternoon with temperatures hitting the 80s, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

"High clouds will linger in the morning, dimming the sunshine," Schack said. "But there will be a little more prominent sunshine this afternoon."

This afternoon's high will be 84 degrees, Schack said. Winds will be from the east at 5 to 12 mph, she said.

At 7:40 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport's temperature was 61 degrees, the humidity was 65 percent and winds were out of the east at 5 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 58 degrees. The record low was 41 degrees, set in 1963.

The average high temperature for this date is 78 degrees. The record high was 96 degrees, set in 1956.

Overnight, the low will drop to 62 by early Tuesday morning. Temperatures will climb Tuesday to a high of 88, with an isolated thunderstorm possible Tuesday evening, Schack said.

More storms are possible on Wednesday morning, she said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 68 degrees, with the high reaching 87 degrees, she said.
