Heading up to 90 degrees

Slight chance for thunderstorm Saturday night

It’s a good day to test out your air conditioner.

“It looks like a very warm Friday,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “We’re heading up to 90 degrees today. . . . You might want to wear the shorts and flip-flops.”

Schack said skies will be mostly sunny, with winds variable between 3 and 10 mph.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 59 degrees, the humidity was 72 percent and winds were calm.

The average low temperature for this date is 57 degrees. The record low was 39 degrees, set in 1968.

“We’re going to be about 10 degrees warmer than we were yesterday,” Schack said. The average high temperature for this date is 77 degrees. The record high was 95 degrees, set in 1998.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 62 degrees by early Saturday morning.

Saturday’s temperatures won’t be quite so warm, Schack said. Saturday’s afternoon high will be 85 degrees, with southeast winds at 5 to 12 mph, she said.

There is a possibility of a shower or thunderstorm late Saturday night, she said.

“It will still be warm on Sunday, but it does drop off,” Schack said.

Sunday’s morning low temperature will be 61 degrees, she said.

Schack said Sunday’s high will reach 82 degrees, with mostly clear skies and dry conditions expected for Kansas University’s commencement and local high school graduations.

“Graduation looks just fine. You might want to grab the sunscreen,” she said.
