Old home town – 100 years ago today
From the Lawrence Daily World for May 17, 1906: “At a meeting of the KU athletic board yesterday, the new Chicago conference rules in regard to the eligibility of football players were discussed. No definite action was taken, but it was almost unanimously decided to adopt the ‘Big Nine’ rules with a few changes here. The principal changes will be the elimination of the training table, the ineligibility of graduate students to play on athletic teams and the rule that permits a man to compete only three years in athletic contests. : Two overgrown boys, a .22-caliber rifle and a broken window pane were the cause of two fines of $6.50 each in police court this morning. The boys were out taking target practice, got carried away and one of their shots just missed the head of John Reimer at 1945 Vt. as he sat in his home. It was not a laughing matter. : Not many days now before the commencement season is upon us with its forensic solutions of all the past, present and prospective ills of the universe.”
