The primary election filing deadline in Kansas is only a few weeks away, and so far only three candidates have filed in Douglas County races.

County Commissioner Charles Jones filed for re-election Monday at the county clerk’s office. A Democrat, Jones, 54, had said in March that he intended to run for a third four-year term in the 1st District, which covers much of northern, central and some of eastern Lawrence. No one else has filed for the position.

Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, is the only one of the county’s state representatives who has filed for re-election. Sloan, who represents the 45th District, had no challengers as of Monday. All House seats are up for election.

All Douglas County township clerk positions also are up for election. Michael A. Stewart, Lecompton, is the only one who has filed. He is running for Lecompton Township clerk.

One precinct committeeman and committeewoman also will be elected in each precinct this year.

The filing deadline is June 12. The primary election is Aug. 1 and the general election is Nov. 7.
