Seabury’s Davis makes state

? Seabury Academy senior Adam Davis shot a 97 during Monday’s Class 1A boys golf regional at Marion Country Club, good enough to secure an at-large berth at next week’s state tournament in Winfield.

Davis shot a 44 on the front and a 53 on the back, earning his place into the state field as one of the five lowest scorers from teams that did not qualify for the tournament. He is the first Seabury golfer to qualify for the final tournament of the season.

“He was pretty psyched about it, but it’s a long way to go,” Seabury coach Brian Clyne said about the long trip to Monday’s event.

Clyne and the rest of his golfers were anything but enthused about their showing and their inability to join Davis on the state stage.

“I think we were pretty disappointed in our team score,” Clyne said. “We thought we could place in the top three and go to state.”
