Showers possible this afternoon

Temperatures heading into the 80s later this week

You might want to pack an umbrella for this afternoon.

“We have sunshine to start the day and we’ll have clouds on your way home,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “As the clouds thicken up, we can’t rule out the possibility of a shower.”

Today’s high will climb to 72 degrees, with winds from the northwest at 7 to 15 mph, Schack said.

The average high temperature for this date is 67 degrees. The record high was 90 degrees, set in 1911.

At 1:20 p.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 50 degrees, the humidity was 55 percent and winds were out of the north at 15 mph. Today’s morning low was 47 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 55 degrees. The record low was 35 degrees, set in 1895.

Schack said most of the rain and thunderstorms this afternoon will be to the east of Lawrence..

“There’s still the potential for an afternoon shower or an afternoon thunderstorm,” she said.

Overnight, Lawrence’s temperature will fall to 49 degrees by early Tuesday morning, she said.

Tuesday’s high will climb to 80 degrees, with winds from the west at 5 to 10 mph and mostly sunny skies, she said.

“That would be the warmest day of the month so far,” Schack said.

The warm-up continues on Wednesday, with the low starting at 56 degrees, climbing to a high of 84 by Thursday afternoon, she said.
