Sgt. First Class Dwayne Burgoon was presented with The Army Achievement Medal on April 28 at the Kansas National Guard Hutchinson Armory.

Burgoon is the legal noncommissioned officer with the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment 635th Regional Support Group, Kansas Army National Guard in Hutchinson.

He received the medal for meritorious service during predeployment mobilization training in Salina.

Burgoon was a key trainer for convoy operations, provided instruction on rules of engagement for the exercises and supported the commander on drug processing procedures.

Burgoon, a 1988 graduate of Pomona High School, has attended Butler County Community College, Kansas University, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Emporia State University. He has served the Kansas Army National Guard, where he is the Substance Abuse Program coordinator, for more than 14 years.

Burgoon is the son of Darrell and Esther Cordle, Lawrence.

Veterans of World War II, Korean War, the Cold War and Desert Storm who served aboard the USS Missouri BB-63 will have their 33rd annual reunion Aug. 31-Sept. 4 in Portland, Maine.

Some of the events planned include a tour of greater Portland, cruise Casco Bay, Missouri Band concert, visit LL Bean, tour Kennebunkport, formal dinner and dance. A memorial service will be given Sept. 3.
