Children will have a chance to receive a free bike helmet and show off their bike-riding skills this weekend in Lawrence.

The city’s annual Helmet Fair will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Haskell Indian Nations University. City staff members and volunteers will be fitting children with free bike helmets at the event, in addition to sponsoring a bike rodeo and offering safety advice.

Children who are unable to attend may be fitted for a helmet at any Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical station throughout the year.
