Windy and cool afternoon ahead

Pull out your jacket again – more cool temperatures are blustering into Lawrence today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We’re heading up to only 62 degrees for the high today,” Schack said. “We will have a windy afternoon.”

Winds will be light to moderately breezy from the northwest at 12 to 25 mph, she said.

Skies will be mostly cloudy through the morning.

“It will be a while before the sunshine returns this afternoon,” she said.

At 7:20 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 49 degrees, the humidity was 71 percent and winds were from the northwest at 15 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 54 degrees. The record low was 35 degrees, set in 1946.

The average high temperature for this date is 75 degrees. The record high was 93 degrees, set in 2000.

“It looks like a cool afternoon, below average. We’ll stay below average into next week,” Schack said.

Friday’s morning low will be 42 degrees. Friday’s high will be 71, with sunny skies, she said.

Saturday’s morning low temperature will be 44 degrees, with the high climbing to 70 degrees, with mostly sunny skies, she said.
