Lawrence Police arrested a 26-year-old woman Wednesday on suspicion of entering the employee lounge of Lawrence Memorial Hospital's maternity ward and stealing a purse and wallet belonging to two LMH employees.

The theft was reported about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, and later that day police recovered some of the stolen items from a parking lot at 101 Maine.

On Wednesday they arrested Michele Lee Hiatt, who lists her address as a nearby trailer court, on suspicion of aggravated burglary and theft. A second suspect was still at large as of Wednesday.

If someone can come into the materinty ward and steal purses, then who to say they can't steal a baby? More security at the materinty ward before the next headline reads: Baby taken from LMH

because there is always someone in the nursery and not always someone sitting in the breakroom. There's only one enterance to the nursery and 4 to the breakroom. Any other questions Kansasboy?

Kansas,

We had our baby at LMH. It's impossible to get a baby out of there. They have monitors on the babies so that if they would get close to the doors then they go off. They also are in an area back behind the nurses' station where a nurse is stationed at all times. They also have cameras right in your face as soon as you enter the ward. The ONLY way some one could get a baby out of there would be to go into a room and take a baby...if the baby's in there. Even then the monitor's alarm would go off and they would be on camera plain as day.
