Man arrested in connection with weekend downtown stabbing

Police have arrested a 34-year-old Lawrence man in connection with a downtown stabbing during the weekend.

Late Wednesday night, Jerry Allen Brown was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder after police found him at Burcham Park. He’s accused of stabbing a 21-year-old man about 10 p.m. Saturday on Kentucky Street.

The victim told police he was in a vehicle with an acquaintance when someone he didn’t know later identified as Brown approached the vehicle. Brown asked where he could get “some items,” according to a report, but police wouldn’t say exactly what he was seeking. When the victim said he couldn’t get the items, a fight ensued, according to the police report.

Passersby found the victim injured at 11th and Massachusetts streets, and he was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Both the victim and Brown are transients without a permanent address, according to police and jail reports.
