2006 Kansas legislative session ends

? The Kansas Legislature ended its 2006 session Wednesday evening after the second longest wrap-up session in history.

State leaders called the session a success, citing the approval of a three-year, $466.2 million school funding plan, tougher punishments for sex offenders, and phasing out property taxes for business machinery and equipment.

The House adjourned at 8:08 p.m.; the Senate about an hour earlier.

The session lasted 93 days, including a 15-day wrap-up session, which was one day short of the record wrap-up session in 2002.

Lawmakers will return May 25 for a brief ceremonial end of the session.
