Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 9, 1906: “Manager W.C. Lansdon, head of the athletic department at KU, spoke in chapel this morning on the importance of fair play in athletics. He made a strong appeal for a kinder and more genteel reception of visiting teams and their rooters. He was generously applauded. : Many are excited about the presence of the Sells-Floto circus in town, and many an older man is devising ways to relive his childhood by taking grandchildren to the events. : Officers have arrested two men in Perry who may have been involved with the latest burglary of the Wolfson pawn shop here. About $2,000 in valuables was taken after a safe was blowy by apparent professionals.”
