Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 8, 1906: “The 11th annual convention of the Kansas Federation of Women’s Clubs has opened here and there was difficulty finding lodging after the many people here, about 1,000, for the recent Sunday School Convention. But the problem should be solved soon and it appears every club in the state will be represented by at least one person. : The high school senior play this year will have five complete painted settings, quite an achievement for the young group. : Wolfson’s pawn shop was robbed again and between $1,500 and $2,000 in watches, checks and cash were carried away. The safe was blown open and officials say it was clearly the work of professional criminals.”
