Seahawks win soccer tourney

? The Seabury Academy girls soccer squad won the Harmon/Washington tournament Saturday despite facing extraordinary circumstances.

Just hours before Seabury’s senior prom, and with other commitments limiting Seabury to just 11 players, the Seahawks won back-to-back games Saturday morning, beating Kansas City (Mo.) Van Horn, 3-1, and Kansas City Harmon, 1-0.

“We played a tournament, two games, back-to-back, with no substitutions,” coach Gunar Harmon said. “And we won.”

Harmon said Ellie Gibbs and Soo Young Yoon played injured so Seabury would have enough players. Yoon had an assist on a Melissa Burch goal against Van Horn. Bria Phipps also scored in that game, and Seabury’s third score came on an own goal.

“We got a 25-minute break between games,” Harmon said. “We had enough time to get our stuff and change fields.”

There, the Seahawks beat Harmon thanks to a goal in the 55th minute by Ashley Tomassian, assisted by Regan Sisson.

Seabury (4-4) has won three in a row.
