Texas rallies past Kansas

? A three-run seventh inning lifted the seventh-ranked Texas baseball team to a 7-4 Big 12 Conference victory Friday over Kasnas University.

KU led 2-0 in the first and 3-0 in the second, but UT tied it with a three-run fourth and won it with three more runs in the seventh.

Senior Gus Milner gave KU (33-19 overall, 10-12 Big 12) a two-run single in the first, and KU added a run in the second on an RBI groundout by Brock Simpson.

Simpson singled to lead off the fifth inning. On a hit-and-run call, Matt Baty lined the ball off a leg of UT starting pitcher Kyle McCulloch. The ball trickled down the first-base line, allowing Baty to reach first and Simpson to advance to third base. McCulloch was forced to leave the game and was replaced by freshman lefty Kyle Walker. Walker coaxed Milner to hit into a double play to end the inning.

Ricky Fairchild held Texas to one hit until the fifth inning.

Nick Peoples hit a two-run single in the fifth, and Chance Wheeless added an RBI double to tie it at 3.

The Longhorns (34-15, 17-4) scored three in the seventh off a walk and three singles.

Senior Jared Schweitzer cut the lead to 6-4 in the eighth with a run-scoring double, but UT answered with a sole homer in the bottom of the inning.

Game two of the three-game series is at 2 p.m. today. KU freshman Nick Czyz (3-1, 4.15 earned-run average) will oppose UT sophomore Adrian Alaniz (5-2, 4.36 ERA).
