Olathe woman identified as Clinton Lake car fire victim

The Douglas County Sheriff’s office has identified the body found burned in a car at Clinton Lake as that of a 40-year-old Johnson County woman.

The sheriff issued a statement this morning that identified the woman as Carolyn A. Bower of Olathe. But it’s not yet known whether her death was an accident, suicide or foul play.

Lab results and a final report from coroner Erik Mitchell are still pending.

Bower was identified by dental records. The sheriff’s office says tips from citizens and recovery of the vehicle-identification number from the Mazda 626 in which she was found helped narrow the investigation.

A passerby called police at 11 a.m. Sunday after seeing a car on fire near Rock Creek boat ramp on the south side of the lake.
