Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 4, 1906: “An institute for ministers and other church people begins tomorrow at the University of Kansas and about 100 church leaders are due to attend. : There has been a lot of debate at the State Sunday School Convention about whether to use the term Sunday or Sabbath and whether they are interchangeable. Nothing has been decided. : The Olympic Games came to a close in Athens, Greece, today and the Americans won by an overwhelming majority of points, 76 to second-place England, with 36. Greece had 27.5 points, Sweden 26 and then the totals dropped off to 13 for Hungary and 12 for Austria. : More than 100,000 French workers are reported on strike and many elements of that society are tied up seriously. : The state Sunday School convention, with more than 1,000 people, closes today and the women’s clubs convention begins tomorrow.”
