Take two: A’s winning streak in K.C. survives

? One rainout, a few timely hits, and the Oakland Athletics’ streak in Kansas City goes on.

The A’s have won 12 straight games at Kauffman Stadium after Sunday’s 13-6 victory over the Royals. That came after rain wiped out Saturday night’s game, with Kansas City up 6-1 in the third inning.

“You can’t play every game here, and there’s going to come a time when we end up losing a game here,” said Jay Payton, who had three hits for Oakland. “It’s just nice to get out of here with a couple of wins, go to Anaheim and try to take some momentum into there.”

Nick Swisher hit his 10th home run, falling one short of Mark McGwire’s team record for home runs in April, and drove in four runs for the A’s. Eric Chavez hit his ninth homer, Dan Johnson also homered, and Chavez and Mark Kotsay had three RBIs apiece.

“Our bats have been pretty dormant the month of April,” Chavez said. “This is the first time we’ve really swung the bat that well, so it’s a good sign for us.”

Oakland’s dominance in Kansas City matches the Royals’ longest home losing streak against a single opponent, and it is their longest ever at Kauffman Stadium. They lost 12 straight at home against Baltimore in 1969-70, their first two seasons, when they played at Municipal Stadium.

Over the course of their 12-game run at Kauffman, the A’s have outscored the Royals 94-30. They have not lost a series in Kansas City since July 1999.

Oakland's Nick Swisher connects on a three-run homer in the second inning against the Kansas City Royals. K.C. starter Scott Elarton gave up two home runs in 21â3 innings in Kansas City's 13-6 loss to Oakland on Sunday in Kansas City, Mo.

“It’s embarrassing,” Royals first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz said.

The Royals had their chances Sunday, as Oakland continued to have problems getting a starter deep into the game, but fell apart in the Athletics’ six-run sixth.

Joe Blanton (3-2) earned the win despite issuing a career-high five walks in five innings. He gave up five runs – four earned – and six hits and struck out four.

“I don’t think I’ve ever walked that many people – I mean minor leagues, college, anything,” Blanton said. “I just feel like I was barely missing all day.”

Chavez and Swisher both homered off Royals starter Scott Elarton, who lasted only 21â3 innings.

Johnson added a solo homer off Ambiorix Burgos in the ninth. It was his second of the season.

Mark Teahen’s three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth tied it at 5, but the A’s responded with their big sixth inning to go up 11-5.

The Royals scored one run in the first inning when Blanton misplayed Teahen’s bases-loaded grounder and got within 5-2 in the third on Emil Brown’s RBI double.
