Old home town – 100 years ago today
From the Lawrence Daily World for May 1, 1906: “Those taking part in the state Sunday School Convention here have begun arriving and the sessions are expected to shed a lot of light on church teaching. It is good to have so many notable people of good morals and ethics in our community. : Gossips continue to try to show that Gov. Hoch was involved in a kissing incident with a fellow worker but so far the Democrats and rebellious Republicans have not come up with any suitable data. : Prof. Herbert Emerson has let the contract for a two-story, brick building to be erected on the hill on Adams Street. It will be for a fine new restaurant and a barber shop and there will be a room for small gatherings. : A runaway girl from Eudora has been found but the 16-year-old refuses to return to her home.”
