May blooms with morning sunshine, pleasant temperatures

Put away your umbrella – the first day of May is bringing in blue skies and pleasant conditions.

“I don’t know how it gets any better than this,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Skies were clear this morning, then partly cloudy this afternoon. But Lawrence isn’t expected to get any rain today or tonight, Schack said.

“It’s a dry start to the week after such a rainy weekend,” Schack said. “We did see a total of 2.8 inches of rainfall for the weekend.”

At 5 p.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 66 degrees, the humidity was 56 percent and winds were from the northwest at 7 mph.

The low temperature this morning was 46 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 50 degrees. The record low was 30 degrees, set in 1909.

The average high temperature for this date is 73 degrees. The record high was 90 degrees, set in 1950.

Schack said today’s temperatures will climb to a high of 72 degrees by late this afternoon.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 49 degrees by early Tuesday morning, Schack said. Tuesday’s high temperature will be 82 degrees.

Wednesday’s morning low will start at 55 degrees and climb to a high of 71 degrees, Schack said. She said there’s a chance for thunderstorms on Wednesday.
