Sunny skies make a comeback

Thunderstorms possible Saturday night

Put away your umbrella and pull out the shades – warm temperatures and sunny skies are on tap today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s a beautiful spring day in the forecast,” Schack said. “There’s no rain and no clouds to talk about.”

At 7:30 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 50 degrees, the humidity was 68 percent and winds were from the west at 12 mph. The average morning low for this date is 41 degrees. The record low for this date was 16 degrees, set in 1923.

Schack said temperatures will climb into the 60s by noon and will reach a high today of 67 degrees. The average high for this date is 63 degrees. The record high temperature was 90 degrees in 1946.

Winds will pick up this afternoon, coming in from the west at 10 to 18 mph, Schack said.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 38 degrees by early Saturday morning, she said. Saturday’s high will reach 69 degrees, with winds from the east at 5 to 12 mph and mostly sunny skies, she said.

“By Saturday night, there’s a chance for strong storms,” Schack said.

She said the National Weather Service has included Lawrence in a “slight risk” area for severe weather on Saturday night into Sunday.

Sunday’s morning low will be 54 degrees, climbing to a high of 75 degrees by Sunday afternoon, with mostly cloudy skies, she said.
