Teens hospitalized after car wreck

Five Tonganoxie teenagers, none of whom wore seat belts, were injured in a rollover accident Friday evening in southwestern Leavenworth County.

The vehicle’s driver was Dustin Coleman, 13. At 5:55 p.m., Coleman was driving a 1995 Chevrolet four-door car northbound on 258th Street, about seven miles southwest of Tonganoxie, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

Coleman lost control of the car at a curve. The vehicle then entered the east ditch and rolled about three times before landing on the driver’s side. Alyssa Daniels, 15, was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported by helicopter to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., after suffering disabling injuries. A condition report was unavailable, a nursing supervisor said.

The driver, Dustin Coleman, and Alyssa Coleman, 14, were transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. A nursing supervisor said they were both treated and released.

Two other passengers, Sierra Dowell, 15, and Hillary McPherson, 15, were transported to Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. A nursing supervisor there said information about their conditions was unavailable.
