Free compost runs out

After picking up compost on Thursday and Friday morning, Lawrence residents have exhausted the city’s supply for its giveaway.

Residents will not be able to pick up compost today as originally planned, said Diana Sjogren, a waste reduction and recycling specialist for the city, in a statement Friday afternoon.

The city will later announce the dates for its fall compost giveaway.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, residents can leave tree branches, limbs and bushes that were damaged in the March 12 storm at 1901 Wakarusa Drive. The site is not for construction material or other debris.

Also, city crews will canvass neighborhoods for the final time beginning Monday and ending on Wednesday. They will collect storm debris that is placed at curbs.

Crews ask that residents select a location that will not be blocked by cars during the day to make access easier.
