Old home town – 100 years ago today
From the Lawrence Daily World for March 24, 1906: “Atty. Gen. Hadley of Missouri has practically won his ouster suit against the Standard Oil Co. He has gotten Standard to admit most of the charges against it and Big Oil has much to answer for. : The weather the past two weeks has been such as to make the home fireman’s job an unpleasant one unless he was so fortunate as to be burning gas. It is no fun to get out of a warm bed, pull on your clothes and go to the wood shed. Wet kindling can be a problem but if you are heating with gas as more and more of us are, you will be pleased and relieved. It seems to be the coming thing. Turning on the gas surely beats going for wet kindling.”
