Chilly wind and sun leads to weekend warming trend

It’s chilly out there this morning, but the cold snap is nearly over.

“Eventually we have a warm-up in the forecast,” said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

The temperature at 8:23 a.m. was 28 degrees, with humidity of 81% and winds from the west northwest of 9 mph. The wind chill was an icy 19 degrees.

“It’s in the teens to our west, where there’s still snow on the ground,” Sayers said. “Winds blowing over the snowfield cool the air around us.”

Sayers said that temperatures will rise to 48 degrees, which is still 10-15 degrees below the average for this time of year. The skies will be sunny, with winds at 7-12 mph.

The overnight low will be frosty again at 22 degrees, and Saturday may be a carbon copy of today, with a high again of 48 degrees.

This trend ends Sunday, with a forecast high of 59 degrees, and a low of 36. There’s a small chance of rain Sunday night. Monday looks like spring will finally arrive, with a high of 60. The rest of next week should be about average for this time of year.
