Bautista sparkles for Royals

? Denny Bautista and three relievers combined for a rare two-hitter in spring training, and the Kansas City Royals beat the San Diego Padres, 7-0, on Thursday.

Bautista allowed one hit and struck out five in five innings. Reliever Ambiorix Burgos gave up the other hit in his two innings. Luke Hudson and Jimmy Gobble followed with a scoreless inning each.

After Terrmel Sledge’s one-out single in the first, the Padres didn’t get another hit until Adrian Gonzalez lined a single with two outs in the seventh. They struck out 13 times.

Padres manager Bruce Bochy said Bautista and Burgos hit 98 mph on the radar gun.

“Usually, you don’t have two guys in the same game throwing that hard,” Bochy said. “We looked overmatched today.”

The Royals scored three times in four innings off Padres starter Chan Ho Park. Doug Mientkiewicz went 3-for-4 for the Royals, improving his batting average to .487 this spring.
