Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 23, 1906: “The board of regents of the university this afternoon let the contract for the building of the new gymnasium to William Nadelhoffer of this city at a little more than $71,000. The building will be started as soon as possible and there will be a swimming pool under one of the main floor rooms in a wing instead of in a wing by itself as previously planned. : Dr. H.C. Owens, long one of Baldwin’s leading practitioners, has moved to Lawrence and opened an office at 726 Mass. He is considered one of the finest physicians in the country. .: While our roads are better than those in many other cities, a new process is due to be tried here, oiling the dusty pathways. A representative of Oil Road Co. was here this week to discuss the matter. : Are you registered? No matter how much you want good government you cannot get it unless you vote.”
