Spring takes another day off
Snow flurries possible tonight
Grab your coat on the way out – temperatures aren’t going to get any higher than 40 degrees today.
“That’s about 20 degrees below average,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.
Although it’s the third day of spring, Lawrence is staying in a more winter-like mode, Schack said.
“We’re not expecting strong winds today, but they will stay out of the north, keeping the temperatures cool,” she said. “Tonight, there’s a chance for a few fleeting flurries.”
The average high temperature for this date is 59 degrees and the record high was 91, set in 1910.
At 3:10 p.m., the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 40 degrees, the humidity was 55 percent and winds were from the north at 10 mph, making the windchill 33 degrees.
The average low temperature for this date is 37 degrees. The record low for this date is 7 degrees, set in 2002.
“I do think we have some sunshine in the forecast. There’s no sunshine now, but it will return as the temperatures begin to climb,” she said.
North winds will continue at 7 to 15 mph through the day, she said. The National Weather Service is predicting a 20 percent chance of snow flurries after midnight.
Thursday’s morning low will be 24 degrees, with clouds decreasing, Schack said. Thursday’s high temperature will be 41 degrees, she said.
Friday will be mostly sunny, with the morning low starting at 22 degrees and climbing through the afternoon to 44 degrees, she said.
