Geological Survey names new director

William Harrison, interim state geologist and interim director of the Kansas Geological Survey at Kansas University, has been named to the positions on a permanent basis.

The Geological Survey, which reports to the vice provost for research, is a research and service division of KU and is headquartered on KU’s west campus in Lawrence.

Harrison takes the seat vacated by M. Lee Allison, who now serves as Arizona state geologist and director of the Arizona Geological Survey.

Harrison joined the Geological Survey in 1997 as deputy director and was named chief geologist in 2000.
