District considering spending requests

Lawrence school officials have released a list of 38 spending proposals being considered for the district’s 2006-07 budget, which begins July 1.

The list was introduced during the school board’s March 13 meeting. Plans call for reviewing each proposal, starting with the board’s March 27 meeting at the district’s offices, 110 McDonald Drive. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m.

The proposals add up to more than $7 million in additional spending.

“There’s no way we can do everything,” Supt. Randy Weseman said. “All we can do at this point is start setting priorities.”

Weseman said the district would be lucky to receive $3.2 million in additional state aid for 2006-07.
