Lawrence police arrested a 15-year-old boy accused of threatening and sodomizing a 13-year-old boy. Police said the alleged sexual abuse occurred 2 p.m. Friday in central Lawrence.

Lawrence police department spokeswoman Kim Murphree said the suspect threatened the younger teenager, forcing the boy to engage in inappropriate sexual conduct.

The boy was taken to the juvenile detention center.

sadly, the 15-year old was probably first a victim, that's where he learned it.

i wouldn't call what bearded_gnome said an "excuse". it's simply a fact that most rapists have been raped themselves.

No had gnome said, "i don't think he should get in trouble because he too has been raped...." or something to that effect, that would be an excuse.

Gnome was simply adding to the conversation.

And parkay, rape is rape. the sentence should be the same no matter what the sexual orientation is.

And that judge deserves to be locked up for not giving a harsher sentence.

60 days for an adult that rapes a child is ridiculous.

In this case, the age of the perpetrator is going to affect the outcome more than anything else. There's only so much prosecutors can do when the criminal is a minor.

Thanks Shakey, no, I wasn't making excuse, as I'm sure the fifteen year old knew what he was doing was wrong.
however, he should be charged to the full extent of the law.
point was: a 15-year-old boy who commits sodomy is almost d certainly demonstrating behavior which he had committed against him.
he should be charged, but I hope the authorities try diligently to trace this boy's sexual history.

p.s. ... and charge the adult male who sodomized him, too.
male victims of rape are about the least likely to report according to national stats.

My question is, what was the threat that was so frightening to the victim that he gave in? Did the 15 year old threaten to mutilate him, to kill him? If so, he is guilty of even more crimes. With no more information at hand, this 15 year old does not get any sympathy from me.

BG, I don't get your argument that a 15 year old who commits sodomy only knows about it through personal experience. The media is saturated with images of homosexual sex. I don't doubt that the topic is even covered in sex ed in school. Your argument would suggest that the only reason males rape females is because they have been raped by females.

I specifically said I had no sympathy for the fifteen year old. The perpetrator, not the victim.

And why do you doubt the media is an issue here?

There are three sentences in this story; I guess that is enough for multiple postings of suppositions and postulations. Since they are both minors, we will likely never know the circumstances of nor motivation for the act leaving everyone a great deal of latitude to post their dissertations on sex crimes.

godot, even with the media, including internet porn, so readily available, the issue of male victims of sexual assault is in some ways a special case.
the male victims of sexual assault actually find it harder to report than do female victims. this has to do with gender role expectations, and what it means to the victim to view himself as a sexual assault victim.
my comments above were based on very well documented research. no, male adults who rape women weren't necessarily sexual assault victims prior to their becoming rapists.
you're comparing apples to prunes.

and, again, I was not absolving the fifteen year old. however, I do wonder if being incarsarated he'll victimize or be victimized again. and, no improvement be possible, and no benefit for society in punishment for a criminal.
