Surprise, Ariz. With Mike MacDougal hurt, the Kansas City Royals' bullpen has another vacancy, and Kyle Snyder is trying to pitch his way into the picture.
MacDougal has a strained muscle in his right arm and is expected to miss at least a month. Snyder helped his cause by throwing two perfect innings in the Royals' 6-3 victory over a San Francisco split squad.
Snyder, a 1999 first-round pick out of the University of North Carolina, has had two shoulder surgeries and two elbow surgeries and missed both the 2001 and 2004 seasons.
"This is as healthy as I've felt in a long time," said Snyder, who struck out two against the Giants. "My first couple of outings were a little shaky, but I felt like I've really settled in."
Snyder gave up two runs without retiring a batter in his first outing of the spring, but has given up only two runs in 6 2â3 innings since.
Snyder has been mostly a starter, but could earn a spot in the bullpen.
