Old home town – 100 years ago today
From the Lawrence Daily World for March 19, 1906: “The high hopes of the Kansas track team were dashed by a 55-30 victory by Missouri at a heavily attended indoor meet in Kansas City. The Kansas men did all they could but Missouri was superior. The annual football game is generally conceded to KU but Missouri generally rules supreme in track. KU won only three first places. : Large crowds turned out to see the strang gaso-electric car on the Santa Fe tracks. It is reportedly due to revolutionize railroad transportation in a relatively short time. : A runaway horse was sadly killed along Massachusetts Saturday night when a shaft from the rig broke and pierced through the chest. Another horse was injured and a splendid pair of bay mares was broken up by the tragedy. : The Lawrence company of the National Guard has been alerted, and told to recruit new members, in case the outbreak of trouble in China becomes more serious. Maximum enlistment potential is called for to meet any such emergency.”
