Investigations continued following the worst fire in modern Lawrence history which had gutted the Rusty’s Food Center (now Community Mercantile) in the Hillcrest Shopping Center. Loss was estimated as well over $300,000. There were no injuries, and owner Rusty Springer announced his intention to rebuild, “bigger and better.”
