Old home town – 100 years ago today
From the Lawrence Daily World for March 17, 1906: “One of the most enthusiastic crowds of university people since the Kansas City football game last fall left Lawrence today for the Kansas-Missouri indoor track meet in Kansas City. KU fans are confident their team will wipe out the Tigers. : In connection with its training school for nurses at Rosedale, the University of Kansas proposes to train masseurs and other operators in physical therapeutics. Practical training by the noted Dr. Sandzen from Sweden will be given. : The special gaso-electric strang car which has attracted so much transportation attention throughout the country will be passing through here on Sunday on the Santa Fe tracks. : A young man in the Hesper neighborhood committed suicide this afternoon by taking carbolic acid. He was visiting his brother. He reportedly drank about four ounces. He had been acting strangely of late, relatives said.”
