Gordon has big day as Royals rally

? Alex Gordon went 3-for-4 and scored two runs, and the Kansas City Royals rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-4, on Thursday.

Gordon, the second overall pick in June’s amateur draft, is 9-for-20 this spring. A two-time Big 12 player of the year at Nebraska, he hit .353 with 44 homers and 189 RBIs in his three-year career.

Mark Teahen hit a sacrifice fly off Arizona reliever Brandon Lyon in the seventh inning to tie it at 4. Wilson Valdez’s RBI single against Randy Choate in the eighth gave the Royals a 5-4 lead.

Jeremy Affeldt, in contention for a spot in Kansas City’s starting rotation, allowed two earned runs in 41â3 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Four Royals relievers did not allow a run the rest of the way.
