Hernandez plagued by wildness

Royals tumble, 10-7, against Angels

? Runelvys Hernandez struggled with his control Tuesday in the Kansas City Royals’ 10-7 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

Hernandez gave up just one hit in 31â3 innings, but walked three and allowed two runs. He also is having problems with his weight and probably is at least 30 pounds over his listed weight of 250 pounds.

“He seems committed to getting himself in decent shape,” Royals manager Buddy Bell said. “Health-wise he looks good. He needs to continue to work on his conditioning, so we can count on him being there all year long.”

Hernandez missed the 2004 season following elbow surgery and led the Royals with eight wins last year. He had just one win after the All-Star break – going on the disabled list in August with a lower back strain.

Brandon Wood, Curtis Pride, Michael Collins and Jeff Mathis homered for the Angels, while Kendry Morales hit a three-run triple in the fifth.

Chad Allen doubled, singled and drove in a run for the Royals. Alex Gordon, the second pick in the 2005 amateur draft, went 2-for-3, walked and scored a run.

Notes: Angels OF Garret Anderson did not play because of a left foot injury. He is day to day. … Royals SS Angel Berroa has not played since Thursday because of skin irritation. … The Royals committed four errors, increasing their total to 14 in 12 games.
