Westar reports electricity fully restored to Lawrence

Power returns following Sunday’s storm

March 14, 2006

Westar Energy reports that electricity is back on for all Lawrence customers who are able to receive power.

Gina Penzig, a Westar spokesperson, reports there are still several customers who need to have an electrician's work performed before power can be restored to them but that other service has been restored throughout the city.

Westar asks customers still without power, and who are not already working with Westar, to call 1-800-LIGHTKS to alert Westar that they are still without electricity.

Aggravating. My power is still out. Every time we've called Westar we are told " you'll be back up in a couple hours." We've been told this since Sunday morning. Not once have we been told that we "might" or "do" need an electrician's work. We have seen no sign of Westar around our house. I appreciate the fact that Westar has been working around the clock, but I'd appreciate it more if we got a straight answer from them.

If you have on-going issues at your residence with trees/branches on your power lines, you can call customer service directly at (785) 575-6300 and they will put in a ticket for your specific need.

DonQuipunch, I appreciate your differentiation between the employees (and I have taken my share of frustrations out on my share of hapless employees trying to do a job) and the employer.

I'm in California but my disabled brother lives in Lawrence on Tennessee down the hill from campus. He's been calling me from pay phones for two days, the latest at 930 pm your time. He says power is back, but his phone isn't. Are others of you having phone problems? I haven't been home to take his calls, but I think what he needs to do is contact the phone company directly.
