Old Home Town – 40 years ago today

Steve Munzer, Salina senior at Kansas University, won what amounted to a triple crown of scholarship – as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, a Danforth Fellow and a Rhodes Scholarship for study in England. His various grants were to provide full support until he could obtain his doctoral degree.

Operations of the All Star Dairy here were to be consolidated in a new processing unit in Lawrence near the Hallmark plant. Officials were working on plans for the marketing activities.

The Lawrence board of education awarded a $102,750 contract to the Lawrence Construction Co. for an addition to Schwegler School.

The national unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent and the Lawrence area rate was under 3.5 percent.
