New principal chosen for Woodlawn School

Jeanne Fridell on Friday was named the new principal of Woodlawn School, starting with the next school year.

Fridell is in her first year as assistant principal at Bergman School in Manhattan. She is also in her sixth year as math coordinator for the Manhattan school district and as the clinical instructor for the district’s professional development schools.

Fridell has taught for 11 years at Bergman. She also taught for two years in Buhler and seven years in Ottawa.

She will replace Joni Appleman, who will become the principal at Deerfield School, where she will replace Suzie Soyster, who plans to retire.

“I know from my research that (Woodlawn students) have made a lot of progress, and I’m excited to continue that progress and lead them forward,” Fridell said in a statement issued by the Lawrence school district.

The Lawrence school board must approve Fridell’s hiring.
