Mom’s plea hearing set in endangerment case

A mother charged with endangering her infant child – who allegedly died as the result of child abuse by the mother’s boyfriend – made a brief court appearance Friday to schedule a plea.

Brandi Mae Hendrickson, 24, appeared before Judge Paula Martin in Douglas County District Court, where she waived her right to a preliminary hearing. Martin scheduled a plea hearing for May 31, after the murder trial is scheduled to end for Hendrickson’s boyfriend, Jay D. Decker.

Decker, 26, is charged with killing 5-month-old Risha Lafferty in October by repeatedly abusing her at the couple’s apartment at Edgewood Homes, 1600 Haskell Ave.

Hendrickson has agreed to testify against Decker as part of a deal she arranged with prosecutors to reduce her charge from a felony to a misdemeanor.
