Clemson, S.C. Kansas University's No. 25-ranked baseball squad had its eight-game winning streak snapped Friday, falling, 7-2, to No. 2-ranked Clemson.
Starter Josh Cribb (4-0) allowed a first-inning single to Ritchie Price, then pitched brilliantly, allowing no hits in seven total innings. He threw only 69 pitches, striking out four.
In the top of the eighth and leading, 6-0, Clemson inserted freshman Matt Vaughn, who promptly allowed two Jayhawk runs. Kyle Murphy's double plated Brock Simpson and Buck Afenir, who had singled and walked.
Junior Sean Land (4-2) absorbed the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs - but just two earned.
KU (14-5) and Clemson (9-2) will square off again at 1 p.m. today. Senior Ricky Fairchild (4-1, 4.33 earned-run average) will pitch for KU against junior Jason Berken (2-1, 2.92).
